My Mailbox
Its been about 5 weeks since my last mailbox post — I decided that I didn’t really want to do it every week, and since I also went several weeks without any new books, I decided to wait a while to do one large post for you guys!
Since my last mailbox (as I’m sure you all know) there was a lot of upset and drama involving The Story Siren. As such, several new Sunday memes have popped up — and I can’t quite decide which one to now participate in! There’s Letterbox Love, set up by a group of UK bloggers, hosted by Narratively Speaking, Showcase Sunday, hosted by Books, Biscuits and Tea and also Stacking the Shelves over at Tynga’s Reviews.
Sigh. I want to do all of them lol. Anyway — until I decide, here’s this weeks ‘mailbox’ post.
Also — today is the last day to enter to win a fab children’s book, so make sure you check it out!

I know — I didn’t give the first book a great rating on Goodreads — the thing is I love, love, love the TV show and am very attached to a lot of the characters, I just don’t like Martin’s writing style. And I find his portrayal of women tiring and offensive. However, since I am a fast reader, while for some people getting through these books may take weeks or months (I’ve heard) of painful reading (if you feel as I do), for me, it was only 5 days of hard slogging. So, since I’m eager to find out what happens to certain people, I’ve decided to continue with this series. But if it proves too much, I have found a handy website which gives you detailed chapter summaries and all the character and plot developments! ;)

Ah, those books look really good. I am hoping to read The Hunt next week.
Happy reading!
My Showcase Sunday
Oh I really need to read the Stacey Kade series it sounds amazing! Enjoy all your new books, happy reading!

It really is an amazing, fun series. I hope you get to check them out for yourself soon! :)
lots of lovely books this week. I got The Hunt too.
hope you enjoy
My Showcase Sunday
I just read The Hunt not that long ago and I really enjoyed it. I hope you do too! Enjoy your books this week!
I loved The Hunt and heard great reviews on Unrest, so I hope you enjoy all you books, Amy! :)
Thank you — normally I probably wouldn’t pick up The Hunt, but so many people have said good things about it, I’m really glad I won a copy :)
I really want to read The Hunt. Also, I looooooove Game of Thrones!!! But, because I watched the show before reading the first book, I didn’t enjoy it as much because everything is pretty much the same. However, I did really enjoy the second and third books. I’m hoping to finish the series soon. I hope you enjoy them more!
Happy reading!
Our Haul
Yes I found that — I watched the tv show first and it followed the book so closely it was like I had already read it! I’ve heard, though, that the second series is already deviating from the other books :) Thanks for stopping by!
I read The Ghost and the Goth a while back, but I haven’t gotten around to reading the rest of the series. Great haul, I can’t wait to see what you think of them!

Check out my Stacking the Shelves post!
I adore the Ghost and the Goth series — I almost don’t want to pick this one up since its the last book, but I have heard that it is a brilliant ending! I hope you get round to them soon :)
Looks like you picked up some good ones this week. This is my first time in a few weeks, also. I just hadn’t been adding books until this week
My SS
Im quite shocked at your comment about the women in Game of Thrones as there are some amazingly strong ones on the TV show. It’s not the kind of book I enjoy so I’m not going to try it but that has upset me a little! :(
Anyway you got some great books and I really hope you enjoy these!! :)
There are some strong female characters within the books and the tv show, but I still didn’t like the way in which women are portrayed in the book or the general attitude of the male characters/society towards women. There are constant rape jokes, threat of rape, rape itself, in any of the sex scenes (of which there are quite a few), women as always ‘taken’, ‘mounted’ etc, rapists have redemption arcs, there’s child-rape, women falling in love with their abusers and so on. However much I like several of the characters and plot lines, it makes for very uncomfortable reading and when the first book in five (so far) is roughly 800 pages, it gets tiring quickly.
In regards to the tv show (which I actually love, but that doesn’t mean I can’t admit to finding fault with it either), one thing that jumps out at me is that, aside from a couple of the most recent episodes in the second series, every episode pretty much features a naked woman at some point, usually performing some sort of sex act, but rarely do you see any male nudity. It also portrays prostitutes very unrealistically.
I had several other issues with the book but I’ll admit this was one of the main ones. It’s something that doesn’t bother a lot of people, and many love the books, but it did bother me. Still — I want to try and read the books before getting much further with the show, so I’m willing to give them another go.
Thanks for your comment! :)
i really like that where she went book cover. the hues are just lovely
im thinking about reading game of thrones, but anm feeling scared by the sheer fantasy of it
I love colours of Where She Went as well :)
I was put off GoT by the sheer size of it lol. It was a little hard going at times. A lot of people do love the books though — its far more political than traditional fantasy though, especially in the first one anyway.
Hey. YEah, I decided to go with the STS as a replacement. I thought about it, the temptation is to do all of them, lol.
The book grab looks great, so diverse! Love that. Hope you’ll enjoy New Girl, it’s the only one from your grab that I read so far. I had fun with it :)
